How to make your packaging social media viral
68% percent of consumers see their purchase decision influenced by the packaging of a product. A product must be attractive not only in terms of advertising, but also in its presentation. However, the complexity of what the consumer wants in packaging is huge.
Packaging has become a relevant topic on digital platforms. Beyond the advertising use of the brand, good packaging can become the protagonist when it is shared by users, becoming an “Instagrammable” element, with the possibility of going viral.
Many companies have already understood the importance of packaging as a branding element and have created packages aimed at being shared on social networks. An example of this is the Budweiser beer brand´s Selfiebud campaign thatit launched as part of a massive promotional campaign around the 2020 Super Bowl, a beer with its label printed backwards that reads correctly when taking a selfie photo.
To follow this trend, graphic design has also evolved. Creativity, humor, and a committed message are the main elements when developing the graphic design of a package. Some packages not only seek to stand out for their visual appearance, butalso relate to strong causes such as diversity, sustainability, and other causes, in order to generate commitment and a sense of belonging.
Many brands seek to connect with centennial consumers by giving messages in their own "language" helping them to
co-create their personal stamp through what they share on social networks.
In the United States there are 223 million active users on social networks. Its use grew by 2% during 2021. In 2021, Facebook positioned itself as the preferred social network, with 96% of internet users interacting on the platform. It was followed bySnapchat and Instagram, both with a share of more than 90% of internet users.
